Learn about health insurance coverage in Kansas. In the latest Annual Insurance Update, KHI highlights uninsured rates across Kansas, using the most recent data available. Almost a quarter million Kansans were uninsured in 2023, including 38,534 children and 201,273 adults. The overall uninsured rate in Kansas decreased from 12.6 percent in 2009 — the year prior to the enactment of the Affordable Care Act — to 8.3 percent in 2023, a historic low. Despite this improvement, Kansas still experienced the 19th highest uninsured rate among all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
