The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released summary enrollment data on March 23, 2023, for the tenth open enrollment period of the federally facilitated health insurance marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The open enrollment period lasted from Nov. 1, 2022, to Jan. 15, 2023. During that time, a total of 124,473 Kansans selected a health insurance plan or were automatically re-enrolled for the 2023 plan year through the marketplace, marking a record for enrollment. This year’s figure represents a 15.5 percent increase from the 2022 enrollment (107,784), which itself was a 21.6 percent increase from the 2021 enrollment (88,627). A total of 11,981 Kansans selected a standalone dental insurance plan for the 2023 plan year through the marketplace. The data reflects unique consumers who selected or were automatically re-enrolled into a 2023 marketplace plan (regardless of whether the consumer paid the premium).
