Staffing Changes: KHI Announces New Roles for Berroth and DeWeese

Topeka, Kansas — The Kansas Health Institute (KHI) is pleased to announce new roles for two staff members, Taryn Berroth and Karsen DeWeese. 

Taryn Berroth has been promoted from Communications Assistant to Proposal and Contract Coordinator. In her new role, Taryn provides support for both pre- and post-award grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements. She plays a key role in tracking proposal submissions, monitoring project timelines and assisting with budget development. Taryn also supports financial processes such as invoicing and reporting. Taryn holds a bachelor’s degree in mass media with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in psychology from Washburn University, where she earned cum laude status. 

“I am thrilled to have Taryn join the KHI administration team,” said Nancy R. Ruf, KHI Director of Administration. “Taryn’s organizational skills and attention to detail will help us improve processes to make the team more efficient and effective.” 

Karsen DeWeese, M.P.H., who previously served as an intern, is now Communications Assistant. She contributes to strategy and analytics, ensures accessibility of print and digital content, and assists with convening logistics and multimedia production. She holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in public health from Kansas State University. 

“Karsen was an amazing intern and we are happy to be able to offer her a full-time, permanent role,” said Theresa Freed, M.A., KHI Director of Strategic Communication and Engagement. “Karsen’s knowledge of communication strategies and tactics coupled with her educational background in public health will help us to grow our audience and better engage stakeholders.”
