The Kansas Health Institute (KHI) is seeking an Educational Programs Specialist to bring learning design expertise to a growing portfolio of educational programming that helps policymakers, public health professionals and community partners turn evidence into action for a healthier Kansas.
The Educational Programs Specialist coordinates and contributes to the learning design, development and delivery of educational programming across KHI. Working closely with the Educational Programs Manager, this role applies adult learning principles and evidence-based instructional design practices to live learning events, courses, digital learning and other educational initiatives. The Specialist collaborates with project directors, subject matter experts and other staff to develop learner-centered, accessible and engaging educational experiences.

What You’ll Do
Live Educational Event Support
- Serve as coordination lead for KHI structured, facilitated live learning events by performing project management responsibilities (Monday.com), tracking timelines and tasks, managing continuing education credit processes and supporting progress across the planning and implementation workflow.
- Support project directors and subject matter experts in navigating the live learning event process, from learning design through implementation.
- Contribute to the learning design of live learning events by consulting with project directors and subject matter experts on educational approach, session structure and engagement strategies.
- Support the development of educational materials such as slide decks, resource guides and run-of-show documents.
- Lead post-event coordination, including recap activities, recording uploads, feedback data collection and related follow-up tasks.
- Support KHI staff as they prepare for external presentations by applying adult learning best practices to the development of educational materials and engagement strategies.
Course and Digital Learning Development
- Contribute to the design and development of on-demand courses, microlearning and blended learning experiences across KHI’s digital learning platforms.
- Build digital course content based on storyboards and design direction developed in collaboration with the Educational Programs Manager and project teams.
- Support management of KHI’s learning management system (KHI Learning), including course publishing, platform maintenance and user support.
- Manage KHI’s educational content library to ensure courses and learning materials remain current, organized, appropriately tagged and accessible.
- Support monitoring and collection of learner analytics and feedback for evaluation purposes.
ECHO Support
- Support iECHO setup and management for KHI’s Project ECHO programs (a structured, case-based peer-learning model), including participant communications, session logistics and data tracking.
- Contribute to ECHO curriculum development in collaboration with the Educational Programs Manager and lead facilitator.
General Educational Support
- Support process facilitation activities by contributing adult learning and instructional design expertise, occasionally co-facilitating or presenting during educational events and sessions.
- Create and contribute to graphics, presentations, short videos and audio content in collaboration with the Strategic Communication and Engagement team.
- Support documentation and continuous improvement of educational processes, templates and internal resources.
- Apply accessibility standards, including WCAG and Universal Design for Learning principles, in the development of educational materials and learning experiences.
- Provide coordination and development support across other educational initiatives as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, learning design, educational technology or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in instructional or learning design through internship, graduate assistantship or professional experience.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design frameworks such as ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) or similar approaches.
- Experience with learning management systems.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards, including Universal Design for Learning and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
- Multimedia and visual design skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage complex projects, competing priorities and deadlines.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in instructional design, learning design, educational technology or a related field.
- Experience developing digital learning experiences across multiple formats and platforms.
- Experience contributing to process facilitation activities or co-facilitating educational events.
- Experience with Project ECHO or similar peer learning models.
- Interest in public health, health policy or related fields.
KHI’s Work Environment
Work will be performed in a hybrid, in-office and remote work environment and involves frequent contact with other employees, either in person or virtually. The position requires the ability to independently execute and manage work efficiently within a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
Compensation
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The anticipated salary range at hire for candidates meeting these qualifications is $58,000-$69,000.
