Testimony: A Health Impact Assessment on Legalization of Medical Marijuana in Kansas (HB 2282)
KHI’ Tatiana Y. Lin, M.A., Senior Analyst and Strategy Team Leader presented neutral testimony before the House Committee on Health and Human Services on House Bill 2282 “Otis’s Law” which aims to legalize cannabis oil for seizure-related conditions. During the testimony, KHI provided a summary of similar “restrictive laws” passed by 11 states in 2014. New HIA findings were shared that related to potential health effects of medical marijuana legalization on driving under the influence, traffic accidents and accidental ingestion.
KHI researchers have developed a pathway diagram that examines multiple factors that may positively or negatively affect the health of Kansans. Additional findings and recommendations will be released next month.
