TOPEKA, Kan. — Tatiana Lin, M.A., has been named Director of Business Strategy and Innovation at the Kansas Health Institute. In this new role, Lin is responsible for advancing KHI’s mission through creative initiatives and programs in partnership with public, private and philanthropic collaborators. She was previously KHI’s Population Health Strategy Team Leader and senior analyst.

“I’m grateful Tatiana has accepted this position to lead KHI’s business development operations and expand on the portfolio of work that we’ve developed during her tenure at KHI,” said Kari Bruffett, President and CEO. “KHI values its longstanding partnerships with community, state and national organizations. With Tatiana in this important role, she can continue to build on these relationships while applying her expertise and leadership in population health research and education.”

As the Director of Business Strategy and Innovation, Lin will ensure a holistic approach for new strategic opportunities, program expansion and grant management across KHI.

“This is a decisive commitment by KHI to ensure that our efforts center on transformative, timely and innovative opportunities and aim to advance health equity and improve population health. I’m excited to contribute to KHI’s vision and mission through this new role and to building and strengthening partnerships with communities and organizations to meet our shared goals and objectives,” said Lin.

At KHI for 15 years, Lin has been responsible for leading the organization’s work in population health and technical assistance. She is a widely known expert in the Health in All Policies (HiAP) approach to decision-making and a co-creator of the Health Impact Checklist (HI-C) published by KHI and applied in communities across the U.S. She has more than seven years of experience leading the annual Kansas County Health Rankings education program alongside multi-sector partners. Over the years, Lin has also strengthened KHI engagement with Kansas communities and positioned KHI to become a valuable partner of important initiatives such as the Pathways to a Healthy Kansas Initiative funded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS).

Lin’s research and policy analysis has been used at the national, state and local levels. This includes topics such as medical marijuana, food insecurity, hospitals and population health, and maternal and child health. She has delivered technical assistance, facilitation services and education about evidence-based practices and data resources to communities and has been instrumental in the success of state-level task forces such as the Kansas Mental Health Task Force, coalitions and other groups interested in advancing health equity and improving health. She is frequently requested to lead Health Impact Assessments (HIAs) on the potential health effects of policies, including those policy areas not usually associated with health, such as transportation, agriculture or housing.

Tatiana serves on multiple state and national advisory boards and is past president of the international Society of Practitioners of Health Impact Assessment (SOPHIA).
