Retiring CEO Robert St. Peter

The Kansas Health Institute (KHI) announced today that after 24 years of service, Robert F. St. Peter, M.D., President and CEO, recently notified the Board of Directors that he intends to step down from his position at the end of his current contract in May 2022.

“KHI is an incredibly valuable resource for effective health policy in our state. I am proud of the work that we have done over the last 20-plus years and excited to see how KHI continues to grow and contribute,” St. Peter said. “I am grateful to the Board and my colleagues for the opportunity to be part of such an outstanding team for so many years.”

Janet Stanek, Chair of the KHI Board of Directors, expressed appreciation for the leadership provided by St. Peter since his arrival in 1998. “Bob has built an outstanding organization, consistently bringing top talent to KHI,” Stanek commented. “We are grateful for his many years of service and leadership and look forward to building on that strong foundation.”

KHI is a private, nonprofit organization based in Topeka with a mission to improve the health of Kansans through nonpartisan research, education and engagement that support effective policy making. During St. Peter’s tenure spanning six different Kansas governors, KHI has established a national reputation as an independent voice on health data and analysis, played important roles in facilitating complex health policy discussions in the state, and developed a physical facility that supports its mission while also contributing to downtown Topeka.

The Kansas Health Foundation (KHF), a philanthropy based in Wichita with a mission to improve the health of all Kansans, created KHI in 1995 and continues to provide core support. Teresa Miller, President and CEO of KHF, added her thanks to St. Peter, saying “under Bob’s leadership, KHI has been a valued partner of the Foundation for nearly 25 years. He has helped bring greater awareness to critical health issues across Kansas, building a strong reputation for trusted, nonpartisan research, education and engagement on health-related policies that impact the health of all Kansans.”

St. Peter will leave his position on May 15, 2022. While at this time he has no specific plans after leaving KHI, he looks forward to exploring opportunities that will keep him involved in improving the health and well-being of people in Kansas. The KHI Board has selected EFL Associates to conduct the search process for a new CEO. Inquiries can be directed to Mike Marden at mmarden@cbiz.com.
