The Kansas Health Institute (KHI) is pleased to announce that Miranda Steele will join KHI as Director of Strategic Communication and Engagement effective April 1, 2021. In her role, Steele will be a member of the senior leadership team and oversee all aspects of communication and engagement, including branding, media and public relations, product development and dissemination, and event planning. She will work to ensure that KHI’s nonpartisan research and educational events, held at the state-of-the-art KHI Learning Center, are first-in-class.

St. Peter, M.D., President and CEO of KHI. “She is a communication expert with proven health policy experience that will be invaluable as she guides our efforts to engage with policymakers and other stakeholders around issues important to the health of Kansans.”
Steele currently serves as the Chair of the Governor’s Council on Fitness, a role she will continue. Prior to joining KHI, Steele was Senior Director of Rural Health Partnerships at Centene Corporation in St. Louis and Senior Director of External Affairs and Business Development at Centene’s Kansas Subsidiary, Sunflower Health Plan, in Lenexa. Before that, Steele was Director of Communications for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment in Topeka. She also has worked as a Public Affairs Specialist for the Department of Defense, Anniston (Alabama) Army Depot.

Steele holds a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, as well as a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in communications and print journalism from Jacksonville State University.
