The Center for Economic Development and Business Research at Wichita State University invited Robert St. Peter, M.D. — president and CEO of the Kansas Health Institute — to talk about the health care industry at its annual conference on the economic outlook for Wichita and the state. The conference was held Oct. 3 in Wichita, and video of the presentations is now available.

St. Peter spoke amid the national debt-ceiling crisis and in the same week as the launch of the insurance marketplaces. Kansans can purchase insurance through the federally run marketplace, HealthCare.gov, under new provisions of the Affordable Care Act.

St. Peter provided context for those developments, such as the rising cost of health care and the political landscape in Kansas and in the U.S.

Watch St. Peter’s presentation below, as well as a panel discussion about Medicaid expansion in Kansas and other issues implicating the state’s economic outlook.
