Because health insurance is the primary means by which Kansans gain access to health care services, knowing which portions of the Kansas population are uninsured is important.

Every year, the Kansas Health Institute uses the latest data from the Current Population Survey, conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, to examine the sources of health insurance for Kansans and the socio-demographic characteristics of the uninsured. The analysis of the data is included in this report, Annual Insurance Update 2010: Health Insurance in Kansas.

This year’s report is particularly significant given the recent passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Policymakers and stakeholders can use the information included in the Annual Insurance Update 2010 to help inform their planning and implementation of health reform.
