This is the seventh year of open enrollment for the Kansas health insurance marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Association Health Plans: Alternative Coverage for Small Businesses? (April 2018)

In October 2017, President Trump issued an executive order that announced his administration’s intent to facilitate the purchase of health insurance across state lines and to increase the coverage options available to Americans. The order identified association health plans (AHPs) as one way to provide more affordable options to small businesses and directed the Secretaries of the Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services to propose regulations or revise guidance related to AHPs. The secretaries released a proposed AHP rule on January 5, 2018. This brief describes AHPs and how they are regulated and summarizes the proposed rule and its potential impact on the individual and small group health insurance markets.

Marketplace Enrollment in Kansas

As of February 22, 2015, 96,197 Kansans have enrolled in health insurance coverage through the Kansas marketplace since open enrollment began on November 15, 2014. KHI has prepared new maps showing the number of Kansans, by zip code, who have selected a plan or were automatically re-enrolled for the 2015 coverage year. Information is not yet available on how many of those persons have paid their premium and are actually covered by the insurance plan selected.
