Issue Brief: King v. Burwell Ruling

The U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 ruling upheld a key provision of the ACA that provides premium tax credits to make insurance coverage more affordable in Kansas and 33 other states that use the federal exchange. Of the 85,490 Kansans who enrolled on the exchange in the 2015 enrollment period, 82% were receiving tax credits; the King v. Burwell ruling allows these Kansans to keep their eligibility for government assistance in paying their premiums.
