Kari M. Bruffett, Vice President for Policy, oversees policy activities, project management and operations, and supervises team leaders. Kari participates in policy analysis and interpretation, strategic planning, budget development, surveillance of business opportunities, and the launch of new lines of business. In her role, she also develops and maintains relationships with state and federal policymakers important to our work.
Kari serves on the National Advisory Committee on Rural Health and Human Services which advises the Secretary of Health and Human Services on health care challenges in rural America.
Before joining KHI, she worked in state government, including as Secretary of the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services and as the Director of the Division of Health Care Finance at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), where she played a key role in the development of the state’s Medicaid managed care program, KanCare. Prior to KDHE, she served eight years in government affairs at The University of Kansas Hospital, and four years in Washington, D.C., as a congressional staffer.
Kari received a bachelor’s degree in Communication with a Journalism emphasis from Fort Hays State University.
