KHI collaborated with the Kansas Association of Local Health Departments and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to assess the capacity of local health departments to respond to public health emergencies, including bioterrorism events. Activities included assistance in developing, administering, and analyzing two online assessment surveys and preparation of reports that summarized the findings. The study revealed a nearly 28 percent improvement in preparedness levels over the 12 month period. It also identified areas where further improvement is needed.
