Dr. Jerome Groopman is professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and chief of experimental medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He frequently writes for The New York Review of Books, The New Yorker magazine and other publications. Dr. Groopman and the New York Review agreed to let KHI reprint the article he wrote for the Feb. 11 issue of the review.
