Despite the ongoing political debate and the obvious technical challenges with the online marketplaces created by the Affordable Care Act, as of October 1, 2013, there are many new options for Kansans to consider when purchasing health insurance. This report provides information detailing the cost of various health insurance plans available by premium rating areas across the state.
Rating areas are defined by county, and the plans offered may vary by county. Rating area information provided here includes the private insurers offering coverage and the actual cost of various options.
The options include four coverage tiers: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. While all plans provide coverage for a robust set of essential health benefits, bronze plans generally have lower premiums and higher cost-sharing, while platinum plans have higher premiums and lower cost-sharing. The silver and gold plan offerings fall somewhere in between. In addition, low-cost catastrophic plans are available to persons under 30 years of age or those qualifying for a hardship exemption.
UPDATE: The information on the Plans Available in the Rating Areas was modified on Nov. 20. The documents provided here reflect these changes.
