This fact sheet provides a summary of the most recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau on the health insurance status of Kansans for 2010–2011.
Findings outlined in this fact sheet include:
• In 2010–2011, 13.1 percent of Kansans were uninsured, not significantly different from the 12.8 percent who were uninsured in 2009–2010. The percentage of Kansans without health insurance in 2010–2011 is significantly lower than the national rate of 16.0 percent.
• During the last decade, the percentage of uninsured Kansans increased from 9.7 percent in 2000–2001 to 13.1 percent in 2010–2011.
• Rates of employment-based insurance dropped from 65.1 percent in 2000–2001 to 56.9 percent in 2010–2011, while public coverage rates increased from 27.2 percent in 2000–2001 to 32.1 percent in 2010–2011.
