— State officials have begun posting additional KanCare readiness information on a website, including proposed changes to the state's Medicaid waiver program for the physically disabled.

Also, public meetings, a teleconference and a webinar for Medicaid providers and beneficiaries have been scheduled over the next few weeks in anticipation of KanCare's Jan. 1 launch.

"It is important for us to remain transparent and make available those documents that tell the story of our implementation activities," Dr. Robert Moser, secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, said today in a prepared statement.

KanCare is Gov. Sam Brownback's plan to move most of the state's 380,000 Medicaid enrollees into managed care plans run by three private insurance companies: Amerigroup, United Healthcare and Sunflower State Health Plan, a subsidiary of Centene.

Brownback officials say their plan will improve care for Medicaid patients and save the state and federal governments $1 billion over five years.

The plan needs federal approval, which state officials say they feel confident they will get in time to start the new program at the beginning of 2013.

Officials today also announced the schedules for several public meetings on KanCare.

An education and open-enrollment tour for Medicaid beneficiaries will be held with stops planned in 12 cities across the state. Full details are available here.

A teleconference has been set from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 28. Those interested in learning more about the plan may call (855) 229-1643. The conference is limited to the first 500 callers. Questions and comments also may be sent to KanCare@kdheks.gov. Officials from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services also are expected to participate in the conference.

For those unable to attend any of the tour sessions, a webinar and teleconference has been scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 14. Those interested in participating can register on the KanCare website.
