Free diabetes screening will be available Tuesday for legislators and state employees.
The screening is sponsored by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment , the American Diabetes Association and the Kansas Diabetes Action Council.
The event is scheduled from 10: a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room C of the Docking State Office Building, 915 SW Harrison, Topeka. The room is next to the cafeteria in the building’s basement.
Also on Tuesday, a resolution acknowledging Diabetes Alert Day and the work of the Kansas Diabetes Action Council is scheduled to be read in the Kansas House and Senate.
According to KDHE, more than 170,000 Kansans have been diagnosed with diabetes – up 20,000 from the previous year. More than 90 percent of those diagnosed have Type 2 diabetes, which can be prevented or delayed through proper nutrition, exercise and other steps.
