TOPEKA Gov. Mark Parkinson has scheduled three signing ceremonies for a bill that will ban smoking in most public places statewide.
He is scheduled to first sign House Bill 2221 at 10 a.m. Friday in the south wing of the second floor of the Statehouse.
Two other events have been scheduled for Monday. The first will take place at 1:30 p.m. in the School of Nursing Atrium at the University of Kansas Medical Center, 3901 Rainbow Blvd. in Kansas City, Kan. The second will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Conference Room A of the Salina-Saline County Health Department, 125 West Elm Street in Salina.
The bill was approved late last month by the Legislature. It will prohibit smoking in most public places and job sites, including restaurants and bars. Smoking will still be allowed in private clubs, retail tobacco shops, and on the gaming floors of casinos.
It will become effective July 1.
