BIO: Corbin was born Oct. 5, 1949, and grew up in Liberal. He graduated from Wichita State University in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in education.
In October 2007, Corbin was promoted to president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, the state’s largest health insurer. He is only the seventh president in the company’s nearly 70-year history. He has been with the insurance company 21 years.
As the president/CEO, Corbin is involved in several local and national boards including Prime Therapeutics, TriWest Healthcare Alliance, BCBS Association, and the Board of Governors.
Before becoming president, Corbin was vice president of external sales and provider affairs at BCBSKS. At the same time, he was in charge of two of the company’s subsidiaries.
“I had been the president of our life insurance subsidiary (Advance Insurance Company of Kansas) and HMO (Premier Health, Inc.),” said Corbin, who still has leadership positions at both subsidiaries.
Corbin got started in the health insurance business as a sales manager for BCBS of Kansas City. He was there six years before moving to BCBS of Texas for five years. After BCBSTX, he worked at Humana Insurance Company for more than two years.
Corbin and his wife, Robin, have four grown children and three grandchildren.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Corbin oversees the BCBSKS steering committee, which regulates seven divisions of the company and an auditing unit.
“I am responsible for all functions of the company,” Corbin said, whose job includes the demands of the boards he serves on and legislative activities.
INTERCONNECTS: Corbin is a member of the Sales and Marketing Executives of Topeka, the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas Chamber of Commerce. He is also a board member for United Way and a member of the Finance Committee for United Way.
