The Guide to Community Preventive Services, more commonly known as "The Community Guide," is a series of recommendations made by the Task Force on Community Preventive Services for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The task force, made up of volunteer experts in public health and prevention research, practice and policy, makes recommendations on evidence-based interventions to address health conditions such as excessive alcohol use, asthma, and tobacco use.
The Community Guide's tobacco use recommendations cover several topics, including reducing secondhand tobacco smoke, restricting access to tobacco for minors, and decreasing the use of tobacco in the workplace.
Recommendations are designed to help communities find programs that will work for them, and take into account costs and returns, along with programs and interventions that have proven effective to address each topic.
