Obesity Prevalence and Risk Factors Among Racial and Ethnic Minorities in Kansas

This report contains the findings from an obesity-related special survey conducted by the Kansas Health Institute, with the assistance of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The survey was based upon Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) methodology that over-sampled black and Hispanic households. In addition to collecting demographic data, the survey also collected information about behaviors that may contribute to weight gain, such as eating habits and patterns of physical activity. The report shows that racial and ethnic minorities in Kansas, particularly blacks and Hispanics, are more likely than their white counterparts to be overweight or obese.
