Ms. Hixson has over 30 years of educational work experience in Kansas, which includes work in direct instruction as well as administration. Early childhood education was a focus of Ms. Hixson's career and it remains an important interest of hers in retirement and current involvement on statewide boards and councils. She has served for several years as a governor's appointee to the Kansas Coordinating Council on Early Childhood Developmental Services, including two as its chair. Ms. Hixson, an active volunteer, has served on many boards, including those of the Citizen's Medical Center, Inc. of Colby, Kan.(as a member and chairperson); the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund (as a member and chairperson of the grants committee); and the Kansas Humanities Council (as a member and chairperson).
She earned a bachelor's degree in education from Kansas State University and a master's degree in special education from Fort Hays State University.
Ms. Hixson lives in Hutchinson, Kan., and her family includes her husband, Warren, a son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter.
